We need investors to improve tax base - Govt

 The government has said it will continue being friends with large businessmen and citing them as a vital aspect to improving the nation’s tax base.
 
Speaking with newsmen shortly after handing over his office, former Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Acting Commissioner General and who is the current Minister for Finance and Planning Dr Philip Mpango said he will continue administering all activities of TRA as Minister for Finance.
Dr Mpango went on to point out that to improve the tax base then his ministry will continue putting pressure on tax evaders and improve collections.
 
“We will keep cleaning TRA to make sure all evils are out of the system and ensure tax collectors,” he said.
 
 “I still encourage information from the public on all businessmen who are evading taxes,” urged the minister who also asked the public to disclose TRA workers in tax evasion rackets.
 
About the Acting TRA Commissioner  General Aphayo Kidata appointed by the President recently, Dr Mpango said; “I know the work capability of Kidata, he is hard working and it’s my believe that he will manage to control and achieve TRA’s goals in collecting taxes.”
 
Mpango called on financial institutions and banks to bring their services to rural areas so as to help Tanzanians living there access financial services.
 
“The government is improving the monetary sector so as to improve the economy of the nation. We cannot force banks and financial institution to cut down their interest rates but through improvement of monetary industry everything will be handled by the market,” he said.
